THE STORY

On her way to class Vera, a sweet 12 years-old girl, falls to the ground and looses consciousness. When she wakes up, she'll need to learn a very important lesson.

This short movie shows how illogical it is to blame women for gender-based violence, instead of teaching everyone mutual respect.

Worthy Citizens is inspired by a previous work by Carolina de' Castiglioni, "Rispettabili Cittadine". You can watch the short movie on this page with English subtitles.

OUR MISSION

Creating change through art

This short stems from Carolina de’ Castiglioni’s interest in  utilizing sarcasm and irony to tackle complex themes, such as gender based violence. While talking to her peers about women discrimination, she noticed how the majority of them found the subject boring or thought it wasn’t their battle to fight. “After all, we basically achieved equality” a man told her during a dinner in Italy.

People today are craving for entertainment and detachment from the horrors of the world, and issues such as catcalling are often dismissed.  Film, and specifically comedy, can allow us to better digest specific stories. By portraying an upside down world, that sort of resembles The Handsmaid’s Tales, de’ Castiglioni aims to make us smile, perhaps laugh, and then stop and think. What kind of world do we want to live in? Is catcalling really just a compliment? Boys will always be boys? Or should we, as a society, collectively grow up and teach respect instead of blame?
